Austin
Two home shops facing each other on East 11th, clay on South Congress and Burnet Road, and a market on both days of the weekend.
Austin's good rooms cluster in threes and fours. Pick a corridor and work it.
The tightest block on this list is East 11th Street, where Take Heart at 1211 and Apartment F at 1200 face each other across the road — one errand, not two. South Austin carries the other pair: Uncommon Objects out on Fortview Road and Ceramigos down South Congress. North of the river the shops string along Burnet Road and the streets beside it — Austin Pottery on Burnet, Shoal Creek Nursery on Hancock Drive in Allandale, Parker + Scott on West Anderson Lane in Crestview — with Antonelli's cheese counter a few minutes east on Duval Street in Hyde Park.
The rest sit at the edges. Barton Springs Nursery is west on Bee Cave Road; Austin Joinery works out of Pflugerville, north of the city proper; and the markets split the weekend between them — Saturday downtown in Republic Square, Sunday out at Mueller. Nothing here paid to be listed, and we haven't been through these doors ourselves yet. Where hours are published we've noted them; where they aren't, we say so.
